Overview
Join Microsoft as a Data Center Technician (DCT) responsible for staging, deploying, troubleshooting, and decommissioning hardware by following standardized procedures. This position offers opportunities to enhance knowledge of data center operations, develop mentoring skills, and become familiar with security and data management protocols, supporting the delivery of foundational cloud infrastructure services powering Microsoft’s online platforms including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure.

Responsibilities
- Execute diagnostic and troubleshooting tasks using standard protocols to swiftly identify and replace defective components minimizing disruptions.
- Conduct post-deployment quality assurance ensuring proper grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling according to safety and deployment standards.
- Decommission hardware for upgrades or refreshes with minimal supervision following established procedures.
- Effectively communicate, report, and escalate incidents to relevant operations management, technicians, and engineering experts.
- Support and guide fellow technicians in addressing complex and challenging tasks.
- Complete all mandatory training relevant to the role while gaining hands-on experience under experienced technicians' supervision.
- Promote a collaborative and supportive team environment by sharing information, actively participating in meetings, and staying informed of team progress.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability for service quality and data center facility integrity.
- Embody Microsoft’s values and culture in daily work.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combined with foundational understanding of computer hardware and components.
- Experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
- Willingness to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Background Checks: Must successfully complete Microsoft and customer security screening procedures including the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and biennially thereafter.
Preferred:
- At least 2 years of experience supporting IT hardware or related technology.
- Professional certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, or Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
