About the Role

Key Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and develop video player functionality for web and Connected TV devices including platforms such as Chromecast, Xbox, Samsung Tizen, LG, Vizio, and Comcast set-top boxes.
- Develop and enhance video player modules utilizing streaming video frameworks like Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, focusing on optimization and scalability.
- Identify and resolve playback problems involving rebuffering, latency issues, and challenges unique to live streaming scenarios.
- Evaluate video player performance using Quality of Experience (QoE) data to diagnose and improve real-world streaming quality.
- Implement features with React Native tailored for Connected TV and multi-device environments.
- Create automated unit and end-to-end testing suites and integrate playback solutions via RESTful APIs to ensure stability and reliability.
- Collaborate effectively with product and engineering teams, working within agile frameworks to deliver software solutions.
- Produce comprehensive technical documentation detailing playback functionalities and specifications.
Required Qualifications
- At least 7 years of professional experience in web development with an emphasis on JavaScript and web-based video playback technologies.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and maintaining video player applications and live streaming components across both web and Connected TV platforms.
- Proficient in using streaming frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, with capability to fine-tune playback and troubleshoot live streaming issues.
- Strong skills in debugging and optimizing playback metrics including rebuffering rates, start-up latency, and overall playback stability.
- In-depth understanding of video streaming standards, live playback specifics such as latency, live edge and drift management, adaptive bitrate (ABR) algorithms, and DRM systems integration.
- Excellent command of English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, capable of working autonomously in a fast-paced, remote work setting.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with video Quality of Experience standards, ABR algorithm design, and analytics tools like Conviva or Segment.
- Familiarity with development environments such as Kepler or VegaOS.
- Knowledge of Node.js backend services and integration methods.
- Background in extensive live sports streaming platforms.
- Flexible working hours to facilitate collaboration with globally distributed teams, particularly to overlap with US Pacific Time Zone by 5 to 6 hours daily.
