Role Overview
The Software Infrastructure team at Graphcore offers an exciting opportunity to join as a Senior Software Engineer in Build Engineering. This position involves developing and scaling infrastructure tools essential for the broader software teams. Responsibilities include enhancing the build, testing, deployment, and productisation processes of Machine Learning (ML) software components, with exposure to distributed systems and high-performance computing AI platforms.
Team Environment
This role is part of a new Build Engineering group within Software Infrastructure, focusing on the integration and building of the ML Software Stack. Collaboration with QA and development teams is vital to maintain best practices, ensure reproducibility, and secure sandboxed environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain internal tools for building, testing, and integrating the ML Software Stack.
- Develop processes and tools supporting software release management.
- Advise developers on optimal build practices and dependency management.
- Maintain active communication with developers, technical leads, and software architects regarding the ML Software Stack.
- Collaborate closely with QA teams to resolve integration challenges.
- Contribute bug fixes and improvements to the ML Software Stack.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proficiency in Python and/or C++ or comparable programming languages.
- Solid understanding of build systems and software build frameworks.
- Experience working within Linux environments.
- Strong communication abilities.
Preferred Expertise
- Familiarity with remote caching and execution systems, such as Bazel.
- Experience with build tools like CMake.
- Knowledge of testing frameworks including PyTest and GoogleTest.
- Exposure to integration tools such as Buildstream.
- In-depth understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices.
- Experience in building and managing containers using tools like Docker or Podman.
- Awareness of software architecture design patterns.
