Job description
Overview
This position is primarily based at Enterprise Square in Edmonton with a hybrid working arrangement, combining remote and onsite presence. The role is crucial in supporting the University of Alberta's fundraising and alumni relations by identifying potential donors and providing detailed insights on individuals, corporations, and foundations to foster relationships and enhance fundraising efforts.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate potential donors based on their wealth, philanthropic interest, and engagement with the university using internal and external data sources.
- Develop and adjust research strategies tailored to the needs of specific portfolios or projects in collaboration with fundraising teams.
- Collaborate with development and alumni relations staff to research prospects and donors, facilitating progress through the donor engagement process.
- Provide researched information formatted according to internal standards and suited to the intended audience.
- Conduct risk assessment research to assist fundraisers and leadership in making informed decisions affecting the university's reputation.
- Ensure accurate and complete updating of prospect information within the Advance database, maintaining high data quality.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a diploma or degree, preferably in business or library science, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
- At least five years of pertinent experience, ideally within professional or post-secondary institutional settings.
- Familiarity with fundraising aspects in higher education is strongly preferred.
- Proficient in Google Suite and experienced in database usage, reporting tools, and subscription resources for fundraising research.
- Excellent organization and multitasking abilities to handle varying priorities and deadlines.
- High competency in conducting thorough research, analyzing large volumes of data, and presenting findings appropriately.
- Clear and effective written and oral communicator, capable of tailoring messages for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work autonomously within established protocols, and to escalate issues when necessary.
- A service-oriented and proactive approach with strong interpersonal skills to promote teamwork and consistent results in support of Development & Alumni Relations objectives.
- Attention to detail with sound discretion when handling confidential information and maintaining reliable records.
- Knowledge of fundraising information sources, prospect research techniques, wealth analysis, and fundraising strategies is advantageous.
