Role Overview
As the Payroll Lead for the EMEA region, you will oversee the entire payroll process for more than 1,400 employees. Your primary focus will be on managing payroll for the German hourly workforce while providing leadership and support to Payroll Managers handling payroll across Israel, the UK, France, and the Netherlands. Close collaboration with Finance, People, and Operations teams will be essential to maintain reliable, compliant, and timely payroll operations throughout Europe.
This position is remote with an expectation of monthly travel to Berlin or Amsterdam to collaborate with local teams on payroll processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly payroll process for Via Germany, coordinating with external payroll providers and internal departments to ensure accuracy and punctuality.
- Offer oversight and coaching to Payroll Managers overseeing payroll in Israel and other European countries, promoting uniform standards and best practices.
- Stay updated on changes in German tax laws, wage regulations, and compliance requirements to keep payroll procedures aligned.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll processes for accuracy and compliance, implementing improvements and controls as necessary.
- Manage the calculation and precise reporting of benefit deductions and tax withholdings with confidentiality.
- Prepare payroll-related financial reports including journal entries and ledger reconciliations.
- Handle complex payroll inquiries escalated beyond the Support Operations team.
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives aimed at enhancing payroll operations and supporting the wider Finance function.
Candidate Profile
- Over 7 years of specialized experience in German payroll, particularly with hourly and shift workers, with comprehensive knowledge of local tax and labor regulations.
- Experience with payroll systems and regulations in other EMEA regions such as Israel, UK, France, and the Netherlands.
- Proficiency using HRIS and payroll platforms like P&I Loga and strong expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Detail-oriented and dependable with a strong sense of ownership, capable of independently meeting strict deadlines.
- Strong communicator and collaborator across various teams including Finance and HR.
- Self-motivated and process-oriented, constantly seeking efficiencies in workflows.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in payroll is advantageous.
- Fluent in English; German language skills are beneficial.
