Lead Software Engineer

BJAK develops technology products utilized by millions across Southeast Asia. As these products and systems expand, there is a need for technical leaders who can tackle complex engineering challenges and enhance engineering standards.

The Lead Software Engineer role involves owning the technical vision and execution for key products and systems. This role demands hands-on involvement in system design, coding, and leading critical engineering tasks from conception to deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Take charge of the technical design and delivery for major products, systems, and engineering projects.
• Design scalable and reliable solutions encompassing backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with the engineering team through coding, prototyping, code reviews, debugging, and resolving production issues.
• Make architectural decisions balancing factors like speed, scalability, reliability, cost, and maintainability.
• Translate ambiguous product challenges into clear technical solutions with executable plans.
• Enhance engineering quality via improved system design, testing, security, observability, and development methodologies.
• Lead pivotal technical initiatives and mentor engineers across various teams.

Candidate Profile

• 7 or more years of software engineering experience developing and deploying production systems.
• Extensive expertise in areas such as backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
• Proficient system design and architecture skills for sophisticated or high-scale systems.
• Strong programming abilities with a commitment to hands-on coding.
• Proven leadership in managing major engineering projects from initial design to production delivery.
• Capability to make informed technical compromises, guide engineers, and resolve complex production challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in scaling engineering teams, systems, or development processes during periods of considerable growth.
• Experience managing engineering efforts across multiple products, markets, or countries.

Working Environment and Language

This is a fully remote position, with a globally distributed team across multiple countries and time zones. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced international environment and collaborating across geographic boundaries. English is the primary language for communication.
