About WorkSafe New Zealand

WorkSafe New Zealand | Mahi Haumaru Aotearoa is the leading regulator for workplace health and safety, committed to ensuring that everyone returns home healthy and safe. Guided by core values including unity of purpose, meaningful engagement, and a duty of care, the organisation strives to enhance workplace safety nationwide.

Team Overview

The Intelligence Analyst will join the newly formed Enterprise Planning and Implementation group, dedicated to enhancing organisational coordination, prioritisation, and delivery of regulatory activities. The Regulatory Intelligence team supports WorkSafe’s mission by transforming operational data and insights into actionable intelligence that guides regulatory decisions.

Role Summary

The role focuses on providing regional operational intelligence to aid frontline inspectorates. The analyst will assess multiple data sources to detect risks and trends, producing intelligible intelligence outputs to enable inspectors and leaders to prioritise actions effectively. Close collaboration with inspectors and regulatory teams ensures regulatory efforts remain evidence-based and responsive to evolving hazards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine operational data to identify regional hazards and emerging trends.
  • Create intelligence deliverables that guide regulatory prioritisation and targeting.
  • Interpret complex data into concise, actionable intelligence reports.
  • Establish strong working relationships with inspectors and stakeholders to grasp emerging regulatory issues.
  • Provide timely intelligence support for regulatory interventions within the region.
  • Prepare operational reports and dashboards to assist decision-making processes.
  • Highlight new or escalating issues requiring broader organisational focus.

Candidate Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience analysing both quantitative and qualitative information to produce insights.
  • Strong critical thinking with an ability to work amid incomplete or ambiguous data sets.
  • Proven capability in producing clear, structured reports or intelligence outputs.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to diverse stakeholder demands.
  • Effective relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Background in intelligence, regulatory, or public sector roles is preferred.
  • Relevant qualifications or progress towards one in intelligence analysis or comparable analytic fields are considered advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a salary range from $83,137 to $108,442 NZD per year, exclusive of KiwiSaver or other employer contributions, which will increase to a 3.5% employer contribution from April 1, 2026.

Benefits include:

  • Five weeks of annual leave
  • Fifteen days of sick leave
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • A reward and recognition framework celebrating staff contributions
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Employee-led diversity-focused networks, including Rainbow, Pacific, Women’s, and Tū Rangatira Māori communities

Additional Information

This is a fixed-term 12-month contract with three vacancies available. Candidates located in Hamilton, Napier, Christchurch, or other WorkSafe sites are welcomed. Inter-agency secondments are encouraged with manager approval prior to application.
