Senior Software Engineer - Backend (Tech & Digital)

Overview

Join HDFC Bank's Tech & Digital division as a Senior Software Engineer dedicated to backend development. This role is embedded within the SHIKHAR COE team and reports directly to the Engineering Manager. Based primarily in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, or Gurgaon, the position plays a key role in crafting cloud-native microservices and secure APIs at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop cloud-native microservices leveraging Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.
• Create RESTful APIs ensuring integration and scalability across enterprise systems.
• Adopt agile methodologies within a DevSecOps framework to deliver high-quality, secure software.
• Build resilient, highly available services emphasizing performance, fault tolerance, and scalability through patterns such as Saga, Circuit Breaker, CQRS, and event-driven architectures.
• Collaborate with engineering and testing teams to maintain, debug, and enhance backend services.
• Translate business user stories into technical solutions that are optimized for large-scale environments.
• Deploy services on cloud platforms with advanced monitoring, debugging, and tracing capabilities.

Technical Skills Required

• Strong proficiency in building RESTful APIs and microservices using Java, GoLang, Spring Boot, and Node.js.
• Experience with middleware, streaming platforms, and databases including Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MongoDB.
• Demonstrated knowledge of TDD, automation testing tools like JUnit, Cucumber/Gherkin, Selenium, Jasmin, KarmaRunner, and performance testing tools such as BlazeMeter and JMeter.
• Familiarity with cloud scaling techniques, containerization (Kubernetes, containers), and implementing service mesh infrastructures.
• Basic understanding of front-end technologies, including JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.

Educational and Professional Criteria

A minimum qualification of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines is mandatory.

Experience

• Total professional experience ranges from 8 to 11 years in design and development across diverse platforms and domains.
• At least 3 years actively involved in developing and consuming cloud-native microservices within Agile environments; experience in the financial domain is highly advantageous.

Stakeholder Interaction

• Engage internally with Engineering Leads, Product Owners, Business Domain Experts, IT Auditors, and BTG Unit Heads.
• Collaborate externally with partners and potential suppliers to ensure robust integration and delivery.
