Java Developer

About the Role

Auto & General invites Java Developers of all experience levels, ranging from junior to senior, to join their dynamic and innovative teams focused on delivering exceptional digital experiences. The primary objective is to build cutting-edge applications that enable customers to easily buy and manage insurance policies online while also supporting robust internal applications for critical business functions.

The development work is centered around creating highly available and reliable Java microservices hosted on AWS. Developers typically operate within cross-functional Agile teams led by dedicated Product Owners and Scrum Masters, utilizing modern DevOps and continuous integration pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement tailored solutions to meet sprint objectives and deliver value to stakeholders.
• Lead and influence solution design and development within the modern architectural framework.
• Contribute to building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines and AWS deployment infrastructure.
• Take ownership of products by proposing improvements and fostering innovation.
• Establish and maintain best testing practices covering unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Collaborate effectively within Agile teams, participating in development, deployment, and support tasks.
• Perform additional relevant duties as required to fulfill operational needs.

Experience and Skills Required

• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in software development or related fields.
• Proficient in Java programming language.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and message bus design patterns.
• Experience with SQL and Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) technologies.
• Knowledge or hands-on experience with Spring Boot and Spring Cloud frameworks.
• Familiarity with application/system monitoring tools.
• Comfortable using Atlassian tools including JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of cloud deployments using Docker and AWS.
• Awareness of web application security best practices such as OWASP guidelines.
• Experience with GitLab DevOps platform.
• Background in financial services software is a plus.
