Role Overview

The Storeman is accountable for managing the movement and accountability of spare parts within the store. This includes receiving, storing, issuing, recording, and maintaining accurate inventory documentation to ensure efficient inventory control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Update bin cards promptly when spare parts are issued or supplied, ensuring physical and system inventory are always reconciled.
  • Utilize correct documentation for receiving and issuing transactions.
  • Implement and maintain effective warehousing best practices.
  • Perform tasks such as receiving, identifying, handling, storing, issuing, and distribution of spare parts.
  • Process daily job orders on the Instanta system.
  • Ensure consistency between system stock serials and physically received or issued stock.
  • Designate appropriate storage locations (bin allocation) and instruct store officers accordingly.
  • Report promptly any stock damage or warehouse issues like roof leaks.
  • Conduct spot checks to verify inventory accuracy, and ensure proper storage conditions.
  • Organize warehouse layout to maximize space and optimize stock accommodation.
  • Monitor inventory reorder levels to maintain stock availability.
  • Ensure safety standards and work methods in the warehouse are upheld.
  • Carry out housekeeping duties to maintain security, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Coordinate inventory cycles by updating classifications such as slow and fast moving parts.
  • Perform regular cycle counts and spot checks on all parts.
  • Conduct periodic full stock counts.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all work orders.
  • Adhere strictly to company safety and health policies.
  • Act as liaison with technical buyers, vendors, and workshop personnel.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports detailing all posted orders.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by the Head of Unit or Head of Department.

Required Qualifications

  • ND (National Diploma) in Accounting or related fields.

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of two years’ relevant work experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of inventory management procedures.
  • Experience in customer relationship management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Capability in data analysis tools and reporting systems.
  • Solid understanding of asset tracking systems and inventory management software.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and financial modeling techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills.
