About The Company and Role
Qualcomm Middle East Information Technology Company LLC invites applications for a Senior Data Center Operations Engineer position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role is integral to Qualcomm's Cloud AI team, which harnesses hardware-accelerated AI to deliver energy-efficient large-scale AI inference and computer vision workloads in modern data centers worldwide.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage MAAS servers encompassing deployment configurations, bare-metal provisioning, image handling, and resolving provisioning issues.
- Set up, configure, and maintain virtual machines, allocating compute, memory, storage, and network resources aligned with operational needs.
- Install, update, maintain, and troubleshoot server operating systems on physical and virtual servers.
- Provide support for server hardware, storage management, and infrastructure issues impacting Cloud AI data center operations.
- Diagnose problems related to servers, operating systems, provisioning workflows, virtual machines, and storage subsystems and escalate as appropriate.
- Collaborate with internal Qualcomm teams, external partners, vendors, and HUMAIN to support deployments, maintenance, incident management, and follow-up.
- Keep detailed system inventories, deployment documentation, configuration details, and standardized operating procedures current and accurate.
- Contribute to enhancing monitoring, alerting, ticketing systems, and operational workflows to minimize recurring problems and boost support effectiveness.
- Develop and manage runbooks, checklists, and troubleshooting guides related to MAAS, VM provisioning, OS maintenance, and infrastructure processes.
- Participate actively in incident post-mortems and implement operational improvements based on lessons learned.
- Work cross-functionally with software, systems, security, supply chain, and facilities teams, offering technical guidance and communicating operational issues and strategic recommendations effectively.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related disciplines with over 6 years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on proficiency managing MAAS or equivalent bare-metal provisioning systems.
- Experience provisioning and maintaining virtual machines across computing resources.
- Strong administration skills for Linux or similar server operating systems covering installation, patching, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to troubleshoot infrastructure incidents involving computing hardware, storage, operating systems, and virtualization layers.
- Working knowledge of data center hardware, storage coordination, networking principles, and operational support.
- Experience collaborating with internal teams, vendors, and external partners to resolve operational challenges.
- Strong skills in documentation, including managing system inventories, configurations, runbooks, and procedures.
- Clear communication capabilities to provide concise status updates, document technical issues, and follow through on action items.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience in designing or operating large-scale AI inference platforms.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automating tasks.
- Familiarity with incident management, ticket tracking, and change control processes.
- Knowledge of hybrid cloud or cloud-adjacent computing architectures.
- Understanding of data center security and compliance standards like ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
- Relevant industry certifications such as CompTIA Linux+, CCNA, or CDCP are advantageous.
Physical and Additional Requirements
- Capability to frequently handle and install equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Comfort working in typical data center environments which require standing for prolonged periods and physical installation tasks.
