About Onside and the Role
Onside develops data-driven software solutions for the agriculture sector, assisting farms, agribusinesses, contractors, and processors in tracking on-site personnel, monitoring property movement, and managing risks related to biosecurity and health and safety on a large scale. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining dependable data pipelines and orchestration within your domain, incorporating AI when beneficial. You will ensure the accuracy and robustness of data warehouse models that support analytics, business intelligence, and customer reporting. Your role includes addressing data issues comprehensively by resolving root causes, managing testing, monitoring, and documentation processes, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with teams across Product, Engineering, Customer, and Finance.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop reliable data pipelines and orchestration workflows tailored to your area of responsibility.
- Utilize AI technologies where appropriate to enhance data processes.
- Ensure high quality and accuracy of data warehouse models for analytics, BI, and customer-facing reports.
- Diagnose and resolve data issues end-to-end, focusing on underlying root causes.
- Implement robust testing, monitoring, and documentation strategies within your sphere.
- Mentor and support junior data engineers to evolve their skills and effectiveness.
- Act as a liaison between the data team and other departments, including Product, Engineering, Customer, and Finance.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Python programming and strong SQL skills.
- Experience building and maintaining dependable data pipelines on AWS platforms, preferably using services such as Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, S3, and DynamoDB.
- Knowledge of APIs, webhooks, event-driven architectures, and ensuring data quality.
- Familiarity with testing methodologies, version control through Git, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
- Experience with BI tools like Looker, Power BI, Tableau, or Superset; additional experience with modern tools like Dagster, dbt, DLT, Athena, Iceberg, or ClickHouse is advantageous.
- Bonus points for experience managing third-party integrations, designing multi-region systems, or handling data security and governance.
