Overview
A Survey Assistant plays a critical role in supporting senior surveyors involved in land or construction projects by preparing equipment, making onsite measurements, and documenting data relevant to mapping and building tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with setting up, operating, and maintaining survey instruments such as total stations, GPS devices, and leveling equipment.
- Take accurate measurements of land features, boundaries, and construction layouts, marking important points on site.
- Keep detailed field notes, create simple sketches, and assist in organizing collected data for further analysis.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols at construction zones and outdoor surveying locations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Applicants may have no prior experience as training is provided, though up to four years of prior fieldwork in land or construction surveying is relevant.
- Must be physically capable of working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extended periods of standing and walking.
- Possess fundamental mathematical abilities to perform measurements with care and attention to detail, and an eagerness to learn technical drawing interpretation.
- Minimum education level is a high school diploma or its equivalent; formal engineering education is typically not mandatory for this assistant role.
