Role Summary
The Staff Platform Engineer will be responsible for architecting and evolving SCAYLE's AWS infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), ensuring security, reliability, and cost-efficiency. The role involves automating Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and deployment processes using tools like GitLab CI and Terraform. Full ownership of essential platform components managed on Kubernetes—including scaling, secret management, and networking—is expected. The engineer will implement and maintain robust observability solutions including monitoring, alerting, and logging by leveraging technologies such as Datadog, Opensearch, and fluentd to ensure uninterrupted 24/7 platform uptime. Collaboration is key, as the engineer will serve as an autonomous partner and expert consultant to internal development teams, proactively advancing operational excellence throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and enhance AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, focusing on robustness, security, and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead automation efforts to improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows with GitLab CI and Terraform to facilitate smooth, secure production releases.
- Manage critical Kubernetes platform components including scaling strategies, secret handling, and core networking elements such as VPC and ingress.
- Develop and sustain observability frameworks for continuous monitoring, alerting, and logging using Datadog, Opensearch, and fluentd to guarantee platform availability.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams as a knowledgeable partner to drive best practices and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in Platform Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering roles.
- Extensive expertise with AWS services and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
- Proficient in containerization and orchestration technologies, notably Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong background in CI/CD toolchains, especially GitLab CI, with proficiency in Terraform.
- Working knowledge of Go programming language at basic to intermediate level.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, effectively engaging with agile development teams and stakeholders.
