Job Overview

Airtel Malawi Plc is seeking a diligent Settlement & Reconciliation Executive to manage precise bank reconciliations, validate transactions, and maintain robust financial controls ensuring integrity in accounting records.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and timely reconciliation of multiple bank accounts to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Investigate any unreconciled transactions or discrepancies and resolve outstanding issues.
  • Engage directly with banking institutions for transaction clarifications, statement procurement, and resolving queries.
  • Track cash and float movements, ensuring accurate documentation of all banking transactions.
  • Review, verify, and accurately post accounting entries in alignment with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
  • Ensure all financial records and supporting documents are complete and precise.
  • Manage journal postings, accounting entries, and reconciliation validations effectively.
  • Support closing processes at month-end and year-end for financial reporting.
  • Assess payment requests along with their documentation for completeness and legitimacy.
  • Authorize transactions following the established delegation of authority framework.
  • Guarantee adherence to internal controls and financial governance protocols.
  • Follow up with banks on transaction issues, payment investigations, account updates, and necessary documentation.
  • Coordinate with IT to address ERP, banking interface, and related system issues affecting finance operations.
  • Collaborate internally with various departments to gather supporting data and resolve accounting inquiries.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
  • Between 3 to 5 years' relevant experience in finance and accounting, emphasizing operations.
  • Proven background in bank reconciliation and transaction assessments is imperative.
  • Experience within a corporate finance environment is advantageous.

Technical Skills

  • Deep understanding of accounting principles and sound financial control mechanisms.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting independent bank reconciliations.
  • Familiarity with transaction validation procedures and approval processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial data analysis and reporting.
