Senior Software Engineer - Java and Spring Boot Backend Developer

About the Role

Join the Sams Club membership technology team as a key contributor responsible for developing scalable, resilient backend systems that enhance membership experiences and support a dynamic membership lifecycle platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing, coding, testing, and maintaining backend services using Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify, understand, and prioritize project requirements.
• Implement and enhance features to fulfill evolving business needs.
• Diagnose and resolve complex backend system issues effectively.
• Improve system scalability, reliability, and overall performance.
• Participate actively in code reviews to maintain high-quality standards and best practices.
• Partner with DevOps teams to ensure seamless deployment and thorough monitoring of backend services.
• Keep abreast of current industry trends and new technologies related to Java and Spring Boot.

Candidate Profile

• Experienced software engineer with 5 to 9 years specializing in Java and Spring Boot development.
• Holds a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledgeable in containerization technologies, particularly Docker.
• Acquainted with microservices architecture and design principles.
• Familiar with DevOps tools including Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Certified in Java or Spring Boot technologies.
• Strong grasp of Java 8+ features and Spring Boot modules such as Spring MVC, Spring Data, and Spring Security.
• Experienced working with NoSQL databases including MongoDB, Cassandra, or Cosmos DB.
• Solid understanding of software design patterns and best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities coupled with attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills enabling effective team collaboration.
• Experienced in Agile development workflows and version control systems like Git.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field with at least 3 years' experience in software engineering; or
• At least 5 years of relevant software engineering experience without a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in computer science, IT, cybersecurity, or related fields with experience leading security or cybersecurity initiatives.
• Experience with accessible digital product design adhering to WCAG 2.2 AA standards and best practices for inclusive technology.
• Additional IT certifications, e.g., CISCO certifications.
