Job description
Position Summary
The Outlet Sommelier role focuses on ensuring seamless teamwork among staff to deliver exceptional service and fulfill guest requirements. Responsibilities include inspecting staff grooming and attire, addressing any shortcomings, performing opening and closing duties such as preparing supplies and cleaning equipment, and securing premises. Additionally, the role requires overseeing storage areas to maintain organization, cleanliness, and proper inventory management using FIFO practices. The Sommelier monitors dining areas for seating availability, service quality, guest safety, and well-being, while completing maintenance requests as needed.
Team Leadership and Staff Management
Supporting management in recruitment, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, motivating, and coaching employees is a key duty. The Sommelier serves as a role model and point of contact for the Guarantee of Fair Treatment and Open Door Policy initiatives.
Compliance and Safety
Adherence to company policies, safety and security protocols is mandatory, including reporting incidents and unsafe conditions, completing safety training, and maintaining a professional and clean appearance. Confidentiality of proprietary information and protection of company assets are essential.
Guest Relations
Greeting guests warmly according to company standards, anticipating and addressing service needs, assisting individuals with disabilities, and expressing genuine appreciation when guests depart are important aspects of the customer experience. Clear and professional communication with others is required.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships, supporting teamwork to achieve common goals, and responding appropriately to employee concerns are core elements of the role. The Sommelier is expected to uphold quality standards and recommend innovative ways to boost organizational efficiency, productivity, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods or entire shifts.
- Capability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects up to 50 pounds unaided.
- Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination for handling various equipment and tools.
- Mobility in confined, narrow, or elevated spaces, including stair and ramp navigation.
- Ability to reach overhead and below knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping motions.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- Minimum of 4 years related experience
- At least 2 years supervisory experience
