Job description

Role Overview

A Meteorologist is responsible for predicting weather conditions and delivering weather reports across all media platforms in a manner that is both engaging and clear to the audience.

Key Duties

  • Create and present meteorological reports on various platforms.
  • Assure all weather-related content aligns with company standards ensuring journalistic integrity and quality production.
  • Compose and communicate weather stories succinctly and clearly.
  • Support in writing, editing, researching, and coordinating weather programming and related content.
  • Respond proactively to breaking news, severe weather events, and urgent newsroom needs.
  • Collaborate closely with the weather team for comprehensive weather coverage.
  • Engage in promotional events including public appearances.
  • Undertake special projects and additional duties when assigned.
  • Provide daily online weather stories addressing local forecasts.
  • Interact with audiences through social media platforms.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Fluency in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to improvise live as needed.
  • At least five years of experience in weather reporting or anchoring, adaptable depending on market size.
  • Strong on-air presence complemented by experience in guiding, directing, and motivating team members.
  • Capability to identify developmental needs in others and provide coaching or mentoring to elevate their skills and knowledge.
  • Competency with office technology including computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and fax machines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Excellent listening skills to understand issues fully and collaborate towards solutions.
  • Deep understanding of meteorology with proven forecasting success.
  • Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
  • Availability and flexibility to work any shift schedule.
