About the Role

Key Responsibilities
- Create and automate data engineering, machine learning, and business intelligence production release processes.
- Develop code and utilize tools for data transformation incorporating business logic in alignment with Optum’s business and technology stakeholders.
- Design, test, document, and maintain scalable, high-quality big data solutions.
- Analyze original data sources and structural needs to support new software and applications.
- Perform data migration from legacy systems to modern platforms.
- Design conceptual and logical data models and flowcharts.
- Plan data security and backup strategies for solutions.
- Build real-time or near-real-time data pipelines.
- Create prototype monitoring models for data pipelines.
- Prepare technical documentation for data engineering projects.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated extensive data engineering experience.
- Expertise with data processing technologies and SQL databases.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL querying and optimization.
- Experience with relational and non-relational database systems.
- Skilled in ETL implementation, data warehousing, data modeling, and architectural best practices at scale.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform including application development in Linux.
- Hands-on experience with Hadoop, Snowflake, Vertica, Redshift, Synapse, or similar big data platforms.
- Proficiency in Spark and Databricks for data processing and machine learning tasks.
- Experience employing Apache Airflow for data pipeline orchestration, including operating with custom operators and hooks.
- Capability working with container technologies like Kubernetes and Docker for data applications.
- Programming skills in Python; experience with Java, Scala, or related languages is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Agile and Scrum project delivery methodologies.
Additional Valuable Skills
- Experience designing and deploying cloud-native solutions on Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Development experience with OLAP cubes and analytic databases.
- Working knowledge of data warehouse environments and Apache Kafka platform.
- Understanding of DevOps practices and tools.
- Expertise in Agile frameworks and data modeling methods such as Kimball and Data Vault.
- Experience using dbt (Data Build Tool) for data transformation workflows.
