Role Overview
If you enjoy engaging with people and want to gain hands-on experience in tourism, this opportunity is ideal. Join our lively team this summer working amidst stunning water views. Positions are available for casual and fixed-term Café Bar Assistants based at Half Moon Bay and Auckland CBD. These roles are vital to ensuring customer satisfaction and supporting the café’s smooth functioning. The summer fixed-term period runs from early November through the end of March 2027. You will also have a chance to assist Deckhands and learn operational and safety tasks.
Work Environment and Schedule
Shifts may begin as early as 5:00 AM and conclude by 8:00 PM. Due to early start times, having dependable private transportation is essential.

Main Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding customer service to guests.
- Adhere closely to established food service standards and guidelines.
- Provide welcoming, efficient service at the café.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of menu offerings to assist customers.
- Support Deckhands with operational and safety duties as required.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Reliable private transportation is mandatory.
- Prior experience working in cafés or retail environments.
- Knowledge of principles for the safe sale and supply of alcohol.
- Familiarity with local visitor attractions.
- Experience operating Point of Sale (POS) systems.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing work conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address customer queries proactively and maintain a positive team-oriented attitude.
