Reporting to the BIM Manager/BIM Lead, the role functions as the QA custodian for BIM discipline, ensuring models and fabrication outputs align with project specifications, standards, and client requirements as outlined in the 'info pack'.
Working closely with BIM Detailers, Team Leads, and project teams, the BIM QA monitors, logs, tracks, and resolves quality issues to guarantee accuracy, constructability, and compliance before release to construction or fabrication.
Key Responsibilities
- Review 3D models for adherence to project specs, standards, and BEP/LOD requirements. Primary responsibility for 2D fabrication deliverables lies with BIM Lead.
- Validate models and deliverables for piping, ductwork, electrical, instrumentation, and support compliance.
- Ensure spatial considerations like access and maintainability are met within models.
- Verify naming conventions, file structures, and documentation conformity with Mercury BIM standards.
- Identify QA issues and advise on deliverable acceptance prior to fabrication pack releases.
- Log fabrication and installation issues in the BIM QA Punch Portal with detailed entries and correct classifications.
- Track and manage issue resolution engaging design and detail teams as required; escalate recurring or unresolved issues during weekly review meetings.
- Participate in model versus scan verifications to confirm as-built accuracy.
- Review and confirm clash report resolutions prior to fabrication approval.
- Highlight discrepancies between design intent and field conditions.
- Maintain BIM QA/QC dashboards and records, providing weekly quality metrics and trend analyses for leadership reporting.
- Recommend process improvements based on recurring issue patterns to reduce rework.
- Contribute to lessons-learned exercises and update SOPs and training materials.
- Ensure all deliverables comply with BIM Execution Plans, SOPs, and project specifications.
- Conduct periodic quality audits and housekeeping checks on live models and outputs.
- Assist in onboarding and training new BIM staff regarding QA standards and checking procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- Solid mechanical, electrical, or piping background with practical trade or engineering experience such as pipefitting or electrical installations.
- Experience in quality checking 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings against specifications.
- Proficiency with Revit, Navisworks, iConstruct, and/or CADWorx software platforms.
- Familiarity with BIM360/ACC issue tracking and QA/QC dashboard tools like Power BI.
- Good understanding of clash detection workflows and model to scan validation processes.
- Detail-oriented with capability to detect inconsistencies and assess constructability risks.
- Effective communicator able to provide constructive feedback and facilitate resolutions across design and execution teams.
- Preferred experience in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or advanced manufacturing projects.
- Strong knowledge of project SOPs, specifications, standards, and check procedures to certify deliverable compliance.
