About the Role
Join a reputable commercial general contractor in the Boston area as an Assistant Estimator, where you'll be entrusted with significant responsibilities in estimating for commercial general contracting projects. This role offers the chance to be deeply involved in the full bid lifecycle, collaborating with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to produce accurate and competitive project bids.
Key Responsibilities
- Support preparation of precise cost estimates for construction projects aiding effective bidding and budgeting.
- Work in partnership with project managers, engineers, and architects to fully understand project scopes and timelines.
- Analyze project designs and specifications thoroughly to ascertain total project costs.
- Utilize material takeoff techniques to quantify the materials required accurately.
- Regularly conduct cost analysis and value engineering to uncover potential savings and efficiencies.
- Engage in negotiations with contractors and suppliers to attain favorable pricing and terms.
- Keep current with industry pricing trends to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
- Prepare and communicate detailed project estimates and reports to stakeholders including clients and senior leadership.
- Maintain and update a comprehensive database of project costs and market intelligence.
- Adhere strictly to company estimating standards and procedures throughout all tasks.
Candidate Qualifications
- At least five years of experience in construction estimating or an equivalent role within commercial general contracting.
- Demonstrable expertise in project bidding, budgeting, value engineering, material takeoffs, negotiation, and cost analysis.
- Strong mathematical skills and proficiency with IT tools, coupled with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and negotiation capabilities.
- Deep understanding of construction processes, materials, and legal regulations.
- Competency in industry-specific software alongside the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to perform well under pressure and meet stringent deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills, capable of sound and timely decision making.
- A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Professional certifications in construction estimating are advantageous.

Employment Terms
