Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer will design, develop, review, and maintain software modules that extend and integrate with Esko's Switch platform. The position demands expertise in scalable Node.js services, React.js user interfaces, close collaboration with the C++ core engineering team, and involvement in architecture, performance, and quality enhancement of the product. The engineer will provide technical leadership, participate in design and code reviews, and champion best engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust software solutions translating business needs into scalable, well-tested implementations.
• Build and improve backend services using Node.js integrated with the Switch C++ core and workflow engine.
• Create responsive and user-friendly interfaces using React.js and modern TypeScript/JavaScript frameworks.
• Design modular and extensible plugin-based components and contribute to architectural and technical design decisions.
• Implement features around workflow automation, file processing, metadata management, and integration with third-party and cloud services.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex functional and performance issues across Node.js, frontend components, and C++ backend interactions.
• Optimize performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability through profiling, refactoring, and best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Management, QA, Customer Support, and C++ teams to understand requirements and resolve production issues.
• Participate in design and code reviews ensuring compliance with coding standards, security, and architecture integrity.
• Mentor junior developers, share knowledge, and foster continuous process improvements.

Ongoing Duties

• Maintain and enhance software including bug fixes, updates, and new features.
• Work closely with developers, testers, and project managers to ensure successful project delivery.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies.
• Provide technical support, troubleshooting, user guidance, and document development processes.
• Drive adoption of new tools, frameworks, and practices across the SDLC.
• Mentor team members to promote adoption of best practices and knowledge sharing.

Education and Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in software development for enterprise or backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript is essential.
• Working knowledge of C++ to understand and integrate native applications is highly desirable.
• Experience with large-scale modular/plugin-based systems.
• Good understanding of database design using SQL/NoSQL and MongoDB.

Frontend Development Experience

• Hands-on development experience with React.js for configuration and user-facing applications.
• Familiarity with component-based UI design and modern front-end development practices.
• Knowledge of Angular or Vue.js is advantageous.

Core Technical Skills

• Strong problem-solving and debugging abilities spanning multiple technology stacks.
• Experience optimizing performance including memory leak detection and profiling.
• Understanding of C++ concepts preferred.
• Proficient with version control systems such as Git or Perforce.
• Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools like Jenkins.
• Comfortable working in both Mac and Windows environments.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially AWS.
• Strong grasp of RESTful APIs, gRPC, JSON, and asynchronous communication patterns.
• Experience with workflow automation and pipeline systems.

Development Practices and Tools

• Knowledge of software development methodologies, design patterns, and industry best practices.
• Experience working in Agile environments such as Scrum or Kanban.
• Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools like JIRA and GitHub.
• Awareness and use of modern AI tools to improve code quality and productivity.
