Responsibilities

• Create and implement backend features within existing service architectures.
• Develop and maintain scalable services supporting both user-facing experiences and internal platforms.
• Produce clean, maintainable, and well-tested code under the mentorship of senior engineers.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver impactful solutions.
• Engage in code reviews, pair programming, and technical discussions to foster a supportive teamwork environment.
• Enhance system reliability by writing tests, improving monitoring, and addressing bugs and performance concerns.
• Continuously grow technical expertise through feedback, mentorship, and exposure across Canva's engineering stack.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience developing backend systems using Java in production environments.
• Strong foundation in Java fundamentals with practical application of concepts like multithreading, service architecture, and performance optimization.
• Understanding of distributed system principles and confidence in working with RESTful APIs.
• Ability to manage problems from design through deployment with collaborative support.
• Commitment to software engineering best practices, including testing, documentation, and monitoring.
