Project Overview

The UHC Payment Integrity (PI) team, in collaboration with Optum PI, Optum Analytics, and the UHG Chief Data Office, is developing an advanced, scalable data intelligence and performance solution. This platform aims to provide essential data insights, management controls, and business intelligence to optimize operations, modernize data, and foster growth and improved Provider experiences.

The platform will offer four primary features: a secure, unified PI claims data repository; interactive data visualization for financial, operational, and experiential analysis; integrated early alerts and management remediation controls; and a sophisticated data center facilitating advanced analytics and AI/ML applications.

Role Summary

The Senior Data Analyst will generate impactful data insights supporting Payment Integrity Value Optimization and Transformation efforts. This role ensures continual refinement where daily operations data directs transformation priorities, and transformation investments enhance execution, scalability, and outcomes.

The analyst collaborates closely with data teams, transformation leaders, and data stewards to align requirements and ensure compliance with specifications and constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize advanced analytical techniques and tools, particularly for data mining and managing medium to large datasets.
  • Apply strong investigative skills to maintain progress despite uncertainties.
  • Analyze data to propose solutions that optimize operational performance in alignment with transformation objectives.
  • Create tracking, reporting, and self-service analytical solutions to observe trends and advance the PIVOT transformation agenda.
  • Summarize and communicate insights clearly to key stakeholders.
  • Conduct quality assurance to deliver accurate, reliable data outputs.
  • Ensure all outputs meet audit standards and business expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and stakeholders to translate business requirements into actionable analytical solutions.
  • Engage independently with subject matter experts and cross-functional partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Proven experience with financial modeling, preferably involving actuarial systems or insurance pricing tools.
  • Experience using reporting and visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like SQL, VBA, or comparable coding languages.
  • Strong ability to partner with business stakeholders to capture and formalize requirements.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the U.S. health insurance industry, especially claims adjudication and Payment Integrity processes.
  • Experience with cloud databases including Snowflake and Databricks.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycles, including Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
