Job description

Overview

The Quantity Surveyor role, based in Dundrum, County Tipperary, involves supporting project management activities post-tender through commercial and cost management. Key functions include preparing budgets, submitting payment claims, valuations, managing variations, and final accounts while ensuring payments follow up timely. The position also entails assisting the Estimating Manager with material takeoffs and sourcing quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Submit payment claims, valuations, and final accounts for assigned projects.
  • Support project managers and the commercial team in controlling costs and managing project variations.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with clients, main contractors, engineers, architects, and quantity surveyors involved in projects.
  • Sourcing quotes and nurturing supplier and subcontractor relations.
  • Monitor and update project budgets continuously to reflect accurate financial status throughout project lifecycles.
  • Track and report financial expenditures ensuring adherence to project budgets.
  • Collaborate with design teams and project managers to cost and communicate all extras and variations to clients appropriately.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Manager, Estimating Manager, and Sector Project Managers to coordinate commercial operations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying is required.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience, ideally within construction or engineering sectors. Experience with structural steel, cladding, and modular buildings is considered beneficial.

Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional negotiation and communication capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively review, interpret, and extract quantities from engineers’ and architects’ drawings.
  • Proficient in cost control, cost planning, and budget management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with capacity to handle multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
