Project Engineer - Telecom

Role Overview

As a Project Engineer specializing in Telecom systems, you will manage client relationships and oversee the execution of telecom installations within Qatar. This role requires leadership in managing teams, budgeting, technical design review, client communications, and risk management, ensuring quality throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison for clients and contractors, leading meetings, resolving conflicts, and handling change requests effectively.
• Collaborate with Sales to review project scope and goals. Align projects with client needs, health and safety standards, and international regulations while preparing execution plans anchored in practical oversight.
• Develop comprehensive project plans detailing timelines, resource allocation, and budgets; coordinate schedules ensuring contractual compliance and ownership of results with a focus on safety and integrity.
• Lead engineering and site teams by delegating tasks, tracking progress, and fostering collaborative communication.
• Manage project financials by overseeing budgets, monitoring expenditures, approving procurement, forecasting costs, and controlling scope variations.
• Review and authorize technical designs, supervise system integration efforts, and handle technical challenges, promoting continuous improvements.
• Maintain ongoing client engagement through regular updates, expectation management, and facilitating obstacle removal.
• Perform risk assessments, quantify impacts, and implement mitigation strategies effectively.
• Ensure projects adhere to quality standards by supervising inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Maintain detailed project documentation, prepare reports, and guarantee audit readiness.
• Handle vendor selection, procurement timelines, and ensure vendor compliance with specifications.
• Supervise telecom system installations under challenging conditions, coordinating multidisciplinary activities to ensure seamless execution.
• Enforce compliance with regulatory and safety standards, coordinating necessary permits and inspections.
• Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning processes including tests approval and client handover management.
• Manage project closure activities such as handover completion, post-project reviews, warranty support, and capturing lessons learned for process enhancement.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience working with low voltage, security, and telecom systems.
• Beneficial experience in EPC/FEED and Oil & Gas projects.
• In-depth knowledge of low current systems including Access Control, CCTV, LAN, VOIP, WiFi, Fire Detection, Intercom, PAGA, UHF/VHF Radio.
• Proficiency in project planning, cost estimation, and execution.
• Strong abilities in communication, negotiation, and team leadership.
• Capable of preparing detailed professional documentation and managing client correspondence.
• Solid understanding of contract terms and vendor coordination processes.

Preferred Attributes

• Prior experience with Johnson Controls International (JCI) or TYCO in UAE and Oil & Gas sectors.
• Certifications like PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalents are advantageous.
• Experience in Telecom System Integration (TSI) is a plus.
