Intelligence Analyst, Regional

Overview

WorkSafe New Zealand is seeking to fill three fixed-term 12-month Intelligence Analyst positions focused on regional operational regulatory intelligence. The roles primarily support frontline inspectorate activities by analyzing diverse data sources to identify emerging risks and trends, and producing actionable intelligence to optimize regulatory targeting and prioritization. Locations preferred include Hamilton, Napier, or Christchurch, though candidates based at any WorkSafe location will be considered. Inter-agency secondments are welcomed upon prior discussion with managers.

About WorkSafe and the Team

WorkSafe New Zealand is the primary regulator of workplace health and safety, dedicated to ensuring that everyone who goes to work returns safe and healthy. The Enterprise Planning and Implementation group recently formed to enhance coordination and strategic implementation across WorkSafe, particularly in prioritizing and delivering regulatory activities. The Regulatory Intelligence team transforms operational data and insights into intelligence products to inform effective risk management.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze operational data and diverse information to discern regional risk factors and emerging trends.
• Prepare intelligence outputs that facilitate targeted and prioritized regulatory actions.
• Convert complex analytical findings into clear, practical, and actionable intelligence reports.
• Establish and maintain robust relationships with inspectors and regional operational stakeholders to grasp upcoming regulatory challenges.
• Deliver timely intelligence assistance to support regional regulatory initiatives.
• Produce operational dashboards and periodic reports that aid informed decision-making.
• Identify and escalate emerging issues needing broader organizational attention.

Candidate Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience interpreting both quantitative and qualitative data to extract meaningful insights.
• Strong critical thinking capabilities, adept at navigating incomplete or ambiguous datasets.
• Proven skill in drafting clear and well-structured reports or intelligence summaries.
• Experience managing multiple priorities and responding to various stakeholder demands.
• Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Background in intelligence, regulatory, or public sector environments preferred.
• A relevant qualification or ongoing progress toward one in intelligence analysis or a related analytical field is advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for these positions is NZD 83,137 to 108,442 annually, exclusive of KiwiSaver and other employer contributions. Starting April 1, 2026, the KiwiSaver employer contribution will increase to 3.5%.
