Purpose of the Role
- Take ownership of strategies and designs for control systems, encompassing hardware, software, telecommunications, infrastructure, and information systems.
- Define and implement testing strategies, standards, and practices at the enterprise or major organizational level while ensuring alignment with architecture, infrastructure, and production support standards.
- Lead quality management efforts including application of quality, environmental management, and process improvement techniques, and oversee quality/testing of third-party partners.
- Serve as a subject matter expert across one or more technical disciplines related to system design and delivery.
- Design and implement new systems and enhancements, addressing both functional and non-functional requirements, balancing risk, cost, and performance in line with established corporate strategies and policies.
- Ensure systems interoperability and outline technical requirements clearly to internal teams and third-party providers.
- Contribute to or execute system test strategies for aspects such as performance, scalability, availability, and reliability, and review outcomes to validate system operation.
Scope and Responsibilities
- Operate autonomously with broad directives, managing own technical work and projects, setting milestones, delegating tasks, and initiating work independently.
- Exert influence across the organization, including customers, suppliers, and peers, carry significant responsibility for teams and resource allocation, with decisions critical to project success.
- Manage a range of technically complex tasks applying fundamental principles across unpredictable scenarios, understanding the integration of specialized work with broader organizational requirements.
- Utilize industry best practices and business insight to elevate products and services, supporting and guiding less experienced colleagues.
- Make decisions based on internal policies, procedures, and business plans within a predominantly domestic scope.
Primary Duties
- Follow and monitor adherence to established design principles, practices, and guidelines within major organizational or platform segments, suggesting improvements as necessary.
- Play a key role in delivering successful system implementations and enhancements that are mindful of features, costs, timelines, risks, maintainability, operations, and total cost of ownership.
- Act as the expert in technical decisions affecting systems or subsystems, participating in technical reviews with delivery teams.
- Evaluate and manage technical risks; develop mitigation plans and recommend suitable options, escalating significant concerns to leadership.
- Manage technical relationships with internal and external partners responsible for delivering IT products and services within the system environment.
- Support program and project planning activities and provide regular status updates.
