Job description

Overview

The University of Otago is undergoing a major transformation in its HR systems through the Our People Pathway (OPP) program, which implements the Workday Human Resources Information Management system. The role of Workday Specialist is pivotal in delivering this program by supporting new capabilities in people management, processes, data, and technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead functional design activities for various Workday modules and the related business processes.
  • Conduct workshops to define future-state processes, gather requirements, and facilitate decision-making.
  • Convert business requirements into detailed Workday functional designs and configuration documents.
  • Review and validate configuration setups and workflows to ensure alignment with business needs and program goals.
  • Offer expert guidance on Workday functionalities, industry best practices, and opportunities to enhance processes.
  • Assist with data migration, testing, and quality assurance throughout the implementation phases.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, Digital Services, and implementation partners to support delivery, change management, and the shift to business-as-usual operations.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience delivering Workday implementations, enterprise system projects, or digital transformation programs.
  • Strong functional expertise in one or more Workday modules and their business processes.
  • Proven ability to facilitate workshops and engage both business and technical teams in solution design.
  • Experience in supporting testing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance within project environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, capable of simplifying complex topics and influencing decisions.
  • Workday certification is preferred. Exposure to large, complex organizational environments is advantageous.

About the Team

The Transformation and Improvement team enables the University's success by managing major programs and optimizing business processes. This initiative crosses HR, Digital, Finance, and broader University functions, offering engagement in a complex, high-profile transformation.

Additional Details

  • Position is full-time (37.5 hours per week), fixed-term for two years based in Dunedin (Ōtepoti).
  • Salary range is $96,587 to $105,532 per annum, with potential to reach up to $114,474.
