Job description
Primary Responsibilities
- Interpret welding procedures and comprehend the welding techniques to be applied.
- Execute FCAW welding for primary joints on structural components and piping following WPS, qualified under AWS D1.1 and ASME Section IX standards.
- Address weld repairs as necessary, adhering strictly to prescribed procedures.
- Apply distortion control methods to maintain workpiece integrity during welding.
- Perform grinding, gouging, and cleaning of workpieces and welds to meet visual inspection benchmarks.
- Proficient use of welding gauges, measuring tapes, and various precision instruments for accurate work.
- Maintain cleanliness of workspace and equipment consistently.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Education and Qualifications
- Minimum educational attainment: High School diploma combined with relevant work experience or certification in Welding ITI/Diploma.
- Possession of certified welder performance qualifications for FCAW and GMAW welding processes.
- Additional educational qualifications beyond these are considered advantageous.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of 4 to 6 years of practical experience in structural and piping welding within heavy fabrication, particularly with the FCAW process, is mandatory.
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in welding using FCAW and GMAW processes on structural steel materials.
- Ability to interpret welding instructions and blueprints with precision.
- Capability to produce quality welds such as PJP, CJP, and 6G on diverse metals including carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steel.
- Strong technical understanding of welding and gouging techniques.
- Qualification for third-party welding tests in all positions is expected.
- Fluent English communication skills, both oral and written, necessary for understanding procedural documentation.
- Expert knowledge in handling welding and gouging tools including gas burners, grinding equipment, and welding machines.
- Competency in setting up welding machinery, managing shielding gases, controlling consumables, and safely operating power tools.
- Good communication skills for effective teamwork.
Quality Assurance
- Perform all tasks in alignment with the Quality Management System procedures and work instructions.
- Participate actively in ongoing quality improvements within the department.
Health, Safety and Environment
- Conduct work safely in accordance with the organization's Health & Safety policies, employee handbook, procedures, and safety training.
- Maintain vigilance for safety hazards and promptly communicate concerns to HSE representatives.
