Position Overview
The Utility Locator will be responsible for accurately identifying underground utilities such as gas, electricity, telecommunications, water, and sewer systems in the Oakville and Cambridge regions of Ontario. Reporting directly to the Locates Supervisor, this unionized role requires joining the union upon employment acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform precise underground utility locates using electronic locating tools and utility record systems while prioritizing safety.
- Document and field mark utility locations utilizing designated work management software, following strict documentation procedures.
- Execute locate requests assigned by supervisors promptly and accurately.
- Interpret infrastructure records to aid in planning and completing locates.
- Safely operate company vehicles, including planning travel routes to and from job sites.
- Collaborate as part of locate project teams when assigned.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with superintendents, foremen, coordinators, and clients through various communication channels.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by management.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Possess a valid Ontario (G) Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Self-driven with strong organization and multitasking abilities.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision to maintain productivity.
- Willingness to work extended hours as necessary to meet project deadlines.
- Demonstrate accuracy and problem-solving skills under pressure.
- Ability to prioritize competing tasks and adhere to deadlines.
- Professional customer interaction skills.
- Proficient in computer applications including work management software, email, MS Excel, and MS Word.
- Experience with public and private utility locates, pre-engineering locates, and Vital Main Integrity observation is advantageous.
- Prior construction industry experience is considered a plus.
- DPT Certification is strongly preferred.
Compensation and Other Details
The hourly wage for this role ranges from $29 to $39 in accordance with the current Collective Agreement, with actual pay depending on factors such as location, education, experience, skills, and job conditions.
