Unit Manager - Labour Market Statistics

About the Role

This fixed-term leadership position until June 30, 2027, involves managing a team dedicated to Labour Market Statistics. You'll oversee delivery of key data products such as the Household Labour Force Survey, Quarterly Employment Survey, and Linked Employer-Employee Data, ensuring these statistics are contextualized within broader economic trends and serve a diverse user base including economists and financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of subject experts to successfully produce Labour Market statistical outputs.
• Collaborate closely with Statistical Production Leads to ensure timely and quality statistical releases.
• Foster a culture prioritizing customer focus, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute actively to the wider leadership within the branch and organisation's Insights & Statistics Group.

• Effective promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within teams.
• Advanced analytical and strategic thinking abilities to convert complex data into practical insights.
• Familiarity with official statistics, data production processes, and dissemination.
• Preferred knowledge in economics, labour market statistics, or related policy, with appreciation of evidence-based decision making.
• Valued competency in mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti application; proficiency or intent to develop te reo Māori skills welcomed.
• Commitment to ongoing personal and cultural capability development.

Additional Information

• Preferred location: Wellington; Christchurch and Auckland applications also considered.
• 37.5 hour work week.
