Role Summary

This full-time, on-site Truck Driver position based in Kingston focuses on the safe operation of company trucks to facilitate fabric and textile product deliveries between the central warehouse, the Kingston location, and the other retail stores in central and western Jamaica. The role demands precision in loading, unloading, cargo security, vehicle inspections, and delivery documentation management.

Primary Duties

  • Plan driving routes beforehand to identify the quickest paths.
  • Provide sideman assistance when required by using the company van for deliveries to Montego Bay, Savanna La Mar, and Mandeville, depending on conditions.
  • Ensure company vehicles are parked legally to prevent towing.
  • Modify routes as needed to avoid traffic or delays.
  • Report all incidents including accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, and traffic tickets to management.
  • Support the Shipping Department by assisting with merchandise receipt and check-in.
  • Prepare orders by processing requests and supplies, pull materials, pack boxes, and place orders in designated delivery areas as instructed by supervisors.
  • Organize materials into boxes, racks, shelves, or bins according to company standards.
  • Unpack bales, sort, fold, count, and select items as per requirements.
  • Contribute to physical inventory counts.
  • Split rolls manually or using designated machinery.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment, including keeping shelves, pallets, and workstations tidy while removing hazards.
  • Participate in regular cleaning tasks such as sweeping, dusting, and mopping.
  • Ensure warehouse areas are orderly at all times.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all safety regulations as specified in the safety manual.
  • Assist with loading and unloading containers and trucks.
  • Complete assignments in the sponge/poly-fill room as directed.
  • Support fabric rolling tasks as assigned.
  • Occasionally assist or visit stores as a sideman or in other capacities.
  • Verify that goods are appropriately coded.
  • Contribute to stock-taking exercises.
  • Remain vigilant during truck operation to identify any mechanical or maintenance issues promptly.

Additional Responsibilities

Undertake any other duties related to the driver’s role, whether minor or major, within the legal framework.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years’ experience operating commercial carriage vehicles.
  • Possession of a valid Open General Driver's Licence allowing operation of trucks.
