Position Summary
This role involves managing vehicle flow around construction and maintenance sites to ensure the protection and safety of workers and the public. Responsibilities include installing and removing traffic control signage, cones, and barriers, directing drivers using hand signals and traffic devices, and ensuring communication within the team. The job demands strong focus, capability to work outdoors in varying weather, and the physical endurance to stand for extended durations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and dismantle traffic control signs, cones, and barricades around work zones to reroute traffic flow.
- Manage traffic movement effectively using stop/slow paddles.
- Communicate clearly with colleagues using two-way radios.
- Stand, walk, and use hands effectively for up to 10 hours daily.
- Lift, push, carry, and move objects weighing over 50 pounds.
- Operate company vehicles to transport traffic control equipment to different locations.
- Conduct regular vehicle inspections and maintenance checks to ensure safety and functionality.
- Work in outdoor environments exposed to varying weather, moving machinery, traffic, fumes, and noise levels.
- Follow company safety protocols and other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of background check including motor vehicle record.
- Pass drug screening and comply with federal Department of Transportation regulations.
- Use of personal protective equipment including safety boots with toes, hard hats, safety glasses, and reflective vests.
- Proficient operation of 2-way radios.
- Adaptability to work in diverse weather conditions and traffic scenarios.
- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with contractors and internal teams while delivering excellent customer service.
- Team-oriented attitude and strong work ethic with consistent attendance and reliable transportation.
- Completion of the ATSSA Flagger certification and company Defensive Driver training.
- Flexibility to travel statewide with occasional overnight stays and availability for night and weekend shifts as necessary.
- Participation in rotating on-call schedules is required.
