Technical Lead

About the Role

The Full-Stack Technical Lead is responsible for guiding the overall technical direction and providing hands-on development expertise across web, mobile, and backend platforms. Reporting directly to the Engineering Director, this role involves architectural decision-making, setting engineering benchmarks, and mentoring development teams. The position is onsite in Accra, Ghana, with occasional in-person teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the complete technical strategy for web, mobile, and backend platforms aligning with business objectives.
• Make informed architectural choices between modular monolith and microservices, defining service boundaries, integration methods, and consistency tradeoffs.
• Apply Domain-Driven Design to define domain boundaries, contexts, aggregates, and domain events.
• Set and uphold high standards for code quality, testing, API documentation, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and Project Managers to clarify requirements, create acceptance criteria, break down epics, and produce realistic estimates.
• Manage sprint and release planning, handle dependencies and risks, balancing product velocity with sustainable technical practices and debt management.
• Mentor engineers through pair programming, design and code reviews, and coaching sessions.
• Foster a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
• Support recruitment and onboarding to grow the team effectively.
• Lead the development of superior user experiences on web (React/Next.js) and mobile (React Native), ensuring robust state management, performance, and component architecture.
• Ensure UI standards such as responsive design, web accessibility, and polished mobile user experiences across diverse devices.
• Design and implement backend systems using .NET Core, focusing on API design, security, and resilience patterns including retries, timeouts, idempotency, and background processing.
• Oversee database design and optimize performance through schema design, migrations, indexing, and tuning queries.
• Implement observability to monitor health and performance of systems.
• Provide engineering insights for product prioritization, scheduling, and technical tradeoffs during planning cycles.

Qualifications and Experience

• Extensive full-stack experience delivering production-ready products on frontend, backend, and mobile platforms.
• Prior experience as a senior engineer or technical lead demonstrating end-to-end delivery ownership and effective mentorship.
• Strong skills in system design with the ability to communicate architectural pros and cons to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven architectural expertise in:
  • Domain-Driven Design with practical project application.
  • Modular monolith design enforcing clear boundaries and dependency management.
  • Microservices principles including service splitting, data ownership, and handling failure scenarios.
• Solid foundation in relational database design, migrations, and performance optimization techniques.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with Product Owners and Project Managers.
• Familiarity with modern development tools and workflows such as version control systems, continuous integration/deployment, and testing suites.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar discipline; master’s degree is advantageous.
• Fluent English communication skills; knowledge of local Ghanaian languages is beneficial but not mandatory.
