Staff Software Engineer I - Kubernetes and ArgoCD Platform

Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Staff Software Engineer with profound expertise in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), cloud platforms, Kubernetes, and GitOps methodologies. The role involves architecting, scaling, and managing robust enterprise-grade Kubernetes platforms while enhancing reliability, automation, scalability, and operational excellence across critical infrastructure and applications.

The successful candidate will provide technical guidance on Kubernetes platform strategies, influence best engineering practices, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, resilient, and highly available cloud-native platforms at scale. Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes architecture, ArgoCD, GitOps, infrastructure automation, and production-grade engineering is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimize scalable CI/CD pipelines integrated with Kubernetes-native platform solutions.
• Lead infrastructure as code initiatives, platform automation, and standardization efforts.
• Enhance developer productivity via self-service infrastructure and deployment automation capabilities.
• Set and enforce Kubernetes and DevOps platform standards across engineering divisions.
• Develop and uphold reliability metrics such as SLAs and SLOs, championing operational excellence frameworks.
• Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous reliability improvement initiatives.
• Optimize performance, scalability, capacity planning, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Implement proactive monitoring, observability, and alerting systems to maintain system health and availability.
• Architect and manage GitOps workflows with ArgoCD for multi-cluster Kubernetes application deployments.
• Automate deployment, configuration, environment provisioning, and establish governance, release processes, and operational controls for secure, consistent, and auditable deployments.
• Define and evolve enterprise Kubernetes platform architectures, including multi-cluster and multi-region deployment strategies.
• Design, deploy, and manage production Kubernetes clusters at scale across cloud providers such as AWS EKS, Azure AKS, or Google GKE.
• Utilize containerization technologies including Docker and leverage Kubernetes tooling like Helm, Kustomize, operators, and service meshes such as Istio or Linkerd.
• Handle cluster lifecycle management encompassing upgrades, autoscaling, capacity, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
• Architect Kubernetes networking, ingress, storage (CSI), CNI, and workload isolation for complex enterprise workloads.
• Implement Kubernetes security policies including RBAC, network policies, pod security standards, secrets management, and integrate DevSecOps practices.
• Adopt Infrastructure as Code tooling like Terraform for managing cloud and Kubernetes infrastructure.
• Partner with security and engineering teams to ensure platform governance, compliance, and controls.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams focused on DevOps and platform engineering.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams across engineering, product, infrastructure, and security.
• Engage in architecture and technology roadmap discussions, working with global teams across EMEA and US regions.
• Demonstrate flexibility to support overlapping business hours and critical production environments worldwide.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 12 years’ experience in software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE.
• Extensive hands-on skills with DevOps, SRE, CI/CD pipeline development, infrastructure automation, and cloud solutions.
• Proven track record in implementing GitOps via ArgoCD.
• Strong mastery of Kubernetes architecture, cluster management, troubleshooting, and scaling including Docker and microservices across AWS/Azure/GCP.
• Experience architecting and operating large-scale Kubernetes platforms in enterprise environments.
• Expert use of Kubernetes tools such as Helm, Kustomize, kubectl, Cluster API, and related frameworks.
• Lead Kubernetes migrations, modernization, and cloud-native transformations across teams.
• In-depth understanding of Kubernetes internals, container orchestration, and cloud-native design patterns.
• Proficient with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• Solid knowledge of observability, monitoring, alerting, and logging frameworks.
• Familiarity with monitoring platforms like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, ELK, New Relic is expected.
• Strong troubleshooting, incident response, root cause analysis, and support skills.
• Skilled in automation and tooling development using Python, Shell, Go, or equivalent.
• Thorough understanding of security, compliance, and reliability principles.
• Excellent communication, technical leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience collaborating with globally distributed teams and managing cross-time-zone operations.
• Ability to define platform roadmaps, influence engineering practices, and lead enterprise-wide platform initiatives.
• Willingness to operate flexibly supporting worldwide stakeholders and critical production needs.
