About the Role
As a Staff Software Engineer at Google Play based in Nairobi, you will spearhead technical leadership for multiple Play Games products, influencing architectural initiatives and collaborating with cross-functional teams globally. This role involves shaping product strategies, overseeing the full product development lifecycle of multi-year projects, and mentoring junior engineers. You will integrate advanced AI technologies like Gemini to elevate product experiences across billions of devices worldwide.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant practical experience.
- At least 8 years of software development expertise.
- 5 years experience in product testing and launches.
- 3 years in software design and architecture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
- 8 years of proficiency with data structures and algorithms.
- 3 years in technical leadership, guiding project teams and establishing technical directions.
- 3 years experience working within matrix organizations involving cross-business projects.
- Hands-on experience with Google's Java Android stack, Java server environment, GMSCore, and Android native development.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical initiatives across several Play Games products.
- Contribute to strategy, system design, coding, testing, and deployment across a device fleet exceeding 3 billion units.
- Implement and innovate by integrating Gemini AI advancements into Google Play’s products.
- Mentor and provide career development support to junior engineers.
- Maintain fluency in AI concepts and tools; demonstrate expertise during recruitment processes.
