Job description
About Gigs
Gigs is developing an operating system tailored for mobile services, enabling technology companies to effortlessly embed global connectivity into their products. Similar to how Stripe enables businesses to integrate payment solutions quickly, Gigs bridges traditional telecom networks with modern technology platforms. Our platform automates provisioning and simplifies telecom complexities for industries including fintech and HR.
We’re a team of approximately 150 employees across the US and Europe, supported by nearly $100 million in funding from top investors like Ribbit Capital, Google, and Y Combinator. Our workforce is composed of engineers and business professionals from elite companies such as Stripe, Airbnb, and Shopify. We're focused on overcoming profound technical and regulatory hurdles to make telecom connectivity seamless worldwide.
Our Culture and Values
- Speed: We deliver rapidly, setting ambitious deadlines and treating each week with urgency.
- Ownership: We proactively identify and resolve issues without waiting for permission.
- Customer Obsession: We treat our customers’ products as our own.
- Comfort with Ambiguity: We navigate complex, frontier technology domains using sound judgment and instinct without complete information.
- First-Principles Thinking: We challenge conventional methods and focus on fundamental reasoning.
Challenges We Tackle
The role involves solid software engineering tackling variability across diverse carrier APIs globally. We handle real-time provisioning, porting, and eSIM lifecycle management within strict SLA constraints. Our systems oversee usage tracking, billing, and multi-jurisdictional payment mechanisms. We prioritize system observability, resilience, and operability—alerting promptly to integration failures worldwide.
Gigs stands at the intersection of decades-old carrier protocols and cutting-edge technologies like eSIMs, IoT, satellite connectivity, and emerging 6G networks. We architect sustainable, robust platforms that future-proof connectivity solutions beyond transient industry trends.
Role Expansion
Our engineering team is poised for significant growth in 2026, with planned hires for senior individual contributor roles such as staff and principal engineers. This reflects the increasing complexity and scale of our technical challenges and our strategic expansion into new markets and connectivity models.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and refine system-wide frameworks such as event-driven infrastructures, multi-carrier integrations, and multi-tenant platform architectures, establishing governance and review protocols to maintain coherence during growth.
- Elevate operational standards encompassing observability, service level objectives (SLOs), graceful degradation, incident response processes, on-call rotations, and production ownership culture.
- Leverage advances in AI, particularly in platform and engineering methodologies, driving forward agentic AI integration and innovation.
- Mentor and elevate senior engineering talent, contributing to defining career advancement paths within the senior IC track.
- Develop production-grade software while collaborating with engineering leadership to shape technical strategies.
Candidate Requirements and Expectations
- Proven experience building, maintaining, and operating distributed, event-driven systems at scale.
- Deep operational awareness emphasizing system observability, failure handling, alerting mechanisms, and ensuring systems are diagnosable by engineers other than the original authors.
- Competency navigating heterogeneous (polyglot) technology environments.
- Experience with agentic AI development beyond conventional code-completion use cases, with informed perspectives on AI application suitability.
- Track record of influencing cross-functional teams effectively through credibility rather than authority.
- Demonstrated impact in elevating peers’ engineering capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in telecom, payment systems, or scalable multi-market API platforms.
- Familiarity with technologies such as React, TypeScript, Next.js, Ruby, and Go.
- Experience at organizations undergoing rapid scaling phases (e.g., expanding from 50 to 200 engineers).
- Expertise in domain-driven design or managing platform/product boundaries.
Compensation
The position offers a salary in the range of €125,000 to €150,000 annually.
Work Environment and Benefits
Gigs emphasizes in-person collaboration, valuing the creative and relational benefits of co-location. While some remote work and focused periods are supported, expect regular attendance at company hubs and travel for workshops, customer engagements, and bi-annual off-site events called Gigs Republic. Our offices are designed to foster a welcoming, energizing work environment with thoughtful amenities.
Benefits include competitive pay, equity participation through stock options, stipends for home office setups, budgets for continuous learning and development, and complimentary phone and international data plans.
