Role Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Staff Software Engineer to lead the creation and development of Redcare Pharmacy’s next-generation headless checkout platform. As an early technical hire in this greenfield project, you will have extensive autonomy to define the architecture and foundational technology stack from scratch.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance the Core Commerce Services platform by building scalable, channel-agnostic checkout functionalities through all stages — from initial discovery to implementation and production deployment.
• Shape the system architecture by designing APIs, defining domain boundaries, and setting integration models, ensuring scalability, security, observability, and maintainability.
• Coordinate with Checkout, Payment, and other interdependent teams to synchronize technical decisions and interface contracts while maintaining clear ownership divisions.
• Guide and mentor engineering colleagues through code reviews, design discussions, and pair programming to elevate overall engineering quality and standards within the team.
• Collaborate with Product teams to translate business goals into robust technical solutions that lay the groundwork for future commerce innovations such as AI-powered assistants and agentic commerce channels.

Candidate Profile

• Extensive expertise in Java backend development, with solid experience in designing and building backend services, platforms, and distributed systems, remaining hands-on in coding activities.
• Demonstrated senior-level technical leadership capabilities, equivalent to Staff or Principal Engineer, with strong skills in system architecture and the ability to assume significant independent technical ownership.
• Experience thriving in greenfield or 0-to-1 environments where architecture and APIs are yet to be established, proficient at navigating ambiguity and making practical design decisions.
• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and fostering technical alignment across teams through influence and leadership.
• Familiarity with headless or traditional checkout systems, order management, SaaS platforms, e-commerce, or marketplace technologies is advantageous but not mandatory.
