Role Overview
The MetaTech team spearheads the advancement of WorldQuant's research platform, supporting Researchers and Portfolio Managers in creating and managing scalable trading strategies. The team manages critical infrastructure and user-facing features, enabling new strategy types and modernizing platform components such as simulation engines, orchestration, and caching systems.
As a Software Engineering Lead in MetaTech, you will define the technical vision and lead development across quantitative research and distributed systems. Your responsibilities will include balancing user-centric features with infrastructure upgrades, engaging with end users to understand their needs, and directing a team of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical roadmap for the MetaTech platform, balancing innovation and stability.
- Architect and implement platform components including simulation orchestration, caching, monitoring, and strategy lifecycle.
- Collaborate directly with researchers and portfolio managers to translate their requirements into precise technical solutions.
- Drive the modernization of core infrastructure such as simulation engines, distributed caching, and platform observability tools.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams across research, platform engineering, and operations for reliable and scalable system delivery.
- Integrate agentic workflows to automate complex research and operational processes.
- Mentor and manage engineering team members, promoting technical excellence and accountability.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Over six years of practical experience designing and developing scalable, high-reliability backend systems.
- Extensive proficiency with the Python ecosystem, especially for systems-level and data-heavy applications.
- Strong background in distributed systems, service orchestration, and handling large-scale data pipelines.
- Familiarity with quantitative finance and research methodologies to effectively communicate with quants and portfolio managers.
- Experience in simulation systems, financial data infrastructures, or research platforms is highly advantageous.
- Good command of Unix/Linux operating environments.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Advanced debugging and problem-solving capabilities emphasizing root-cause analysis.
- Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design principles.
- Practical knowledge of relational and non-relational databases.
- Experience with C++11 or later versions is preferred, especially in simulation or performance-sensitive tasks.
- Previous experience managing engineering teams is beneficial.
