Role Overview
As a Software Engineer II on the Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) team, you will create and maintain backend services within an evolving architecture defined by senior engineers. This role emphasizes deepening expertise in identity domain technologies while modernizing legacy systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance backend services for a scalable SaaS platform, including distributed systems and databases.
- Own end-to-end delivery of features in collaboration with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers.
- Implement and refine user authentication and lifecycle processes such as registration, login, MFA, single sign-on, and user orchestration.
- Lead safe migrations from legacy identity systems using feature flags, backward compatibility methods, and gradual rollout strategies.
- Approach security diligently by properly managing credentials and tokens and addressing potential issues proactively.
- Contribute actively to code reviews, testing protocols, and continuous improvement of development practices.
- Create foundational platform capabilities that are intuitive and accessible for other engineering teams.
- Embody company values including customer focus, transparency, teamwork, and bold action.
Required Technical Expertise
- Strong backend programming skills with demonstrated experience building scalable systems; experience with Golang is especially valued.
- Proven background in owning and delivering software features from start to finish in a collaborative setting.
- Proficient in relational database modeling and PostgreSQL, including schema design, safe data migrations, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, with experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting production services.
- Understanding of distributed systems principles including API design, retries, idempotency, timeouts, and eventual consistency.
- Some exposure to authentication and identity management concepts such as login workflows, token handling, and standards like OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, SAML, or single sign-on; eagerness to deepen expertise is essential.
- Experience working with multi-tenant architectures ensuring organizational and membership boundaries remain consistent and secure under scale.
- Commitment to producing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, and openness to constructive code review.
Behavioural Attributes
- Self-motivated in addressing clearly defined problems, driving solutions with minimal daily oversight.
- Good judgment in balancing persistence and seeking help, promptly flagging risks and obstacles.
- Effective cross-functional collaborator able to translate technical limitations for non-technical stakeholders.
- Focus on building reusable, maintainable solutions that benefit subsequent teams.
- Flexibility in adapting to an actively evolving domain and shifting priorities.
Artificial Intelligence Integration
- Regular user of AI-based coding assistants, critically evaluating outputs for accuracy, quality, and security.
- Proactively identifies ways to apply automation and AI enhancements within feature development.
- While tooling design and governance are beyond scope, daily hands-on usage with informed skepticism is expected.
