About Corlann West Region and Orchard Services
Corlann West Region provides community-based, person-centred care tailored to the capabilities and needs of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Their mission is to empower these individuals to live meaningful lives within their communities, following recognized national and international best practices. The service promotes social inclusion, engagement with family and friends, and independence through partnership with those supported.
Orchard Adult Services delivers a variety of community-based supports such as day programs, residential care, respite services, community outreach, family support, and multidisciplinary care. Service users are supported in diverse settings including day centres, supported employment programs, social enterprises, education/training, and residential homes, both individually and in groups. The service aims to foster valued social roles and friendships for those it serves.
Role Overview
The role involves working as a Social Care Worker providing key worker support and advocacy for adults with intellectual disabilities. The focus is on enhancing the individual's independence and skill development, assisting with the creation of person-centred plans, and facilitating informed decision-making. Social Care Workers encourage community participation, innovation in support approaches, and promote positive risk-taking aligned with personal choices.
Work Location and Reporting Lines
Positions are based at Orchard Adult Services in Gort, County Galway. Staff may be assigned to residential, respite, day, or community-based services, with the possibility of role changes depending on evolving service needs. Reporting will be to Team Leaders, Managers, or Coordinators.
Eligibility and Registration Requirements
- Applicants must be registered with the Social Care Workers Register maintained by CORU, or be eligible under Section 91 as existing practitioners with verified application evidence.
- Possession of a full clean manual driving licence valid in Ireland is mandatory.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential.
Experience and Skills
- Experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviours is preferred; however, comprehensive training will be offered.
- Familiarity with goal-setting and implementing person-centred programmes is advantageous.
- Capability to work collaboratively in teams and to assume shift leadership when necessary.
- Demonstrated leadership, networking abilities to engage local community groups, strong organisational and planning skills to support goal achievement.
- Creativity, self-motivation, flexibility, good judgment, and commitment to international best practices within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Excellent listening skills, patience, and a good sense of humour are important personal attributes.
Working Conditions
- Available positions include one permanent and one temporary full-time role, each averaging 78 hours per fortnight, based on a 14-day duty roster.
- These roles require flexibility, potentially including weekend, evening, night, split shifts, public holiday work, and sleep-in duties to accommodate integrated day services.
- Annual leave entitlement is 22 days per year.
Remuneration and Terms
- The salary follows the Department of Health Social Care Worker scale effective 01/06/2026, starting at €41,260 up to €56,717 annually pro-rata for part-time.
- A long service increment of €57,789 applies after three years at the maximum scale, pro-rata for part-time.
- Additional pay is provided for weekend, public holiday, and night shifts worked.
- Salary is based on a 39-hour workweek and incremental credit may be awarded for previous public sector service.
- The permanent position is pensionable and includes a probation period of nine months, subject to possible extension or termination if deemed unsuitable.
