Skylark Adult Services in Athenry offers diverse support including day programs, residential care, respite, community outreach, family assistance, and multidisciplinary services. Supports are provided in centers, supported employment, social enterprises, training, education, and residential settings both individually and in groups.

Role Overview

We are recruiting social care workers to join our team who are innovative, adaptable, and motivated to support individuals' independence and skill development. These positions will involve working in residential, respite, day, or community-based services at Skylark in Athenry, with potential for future reassignment depending on service requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as key worker offering support and advocacy to adults with intellectual disabilities, focusing on their abilities and independence.
• Collaborate on person-centered planning and promote informed choices and skill development.
• Encourage community involvement through inclusive and creative approaches, facilitating positive risk-taking for new experiences.

Reporting Structure

The role reports to the Team Leader, Team Manager, Service Coordinator, or Area Manager.

Eligibility and Qualifications

• Registration with the Social Care Workers Register by CORU or eligible under Section 91 as an existing practitioner with evidence of application.
• Possession of a full clean manual driving license valid on Irish roads; obtaining Class D1 license may be required with support provided.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.

Experience and Skills

• Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, or complex needs is preferred, though training and induction will be provided.
• Proficiency in IT skills and English communication.
• Strong leadership and networking abilities to build relationships with community groups.
• Excellent organizational and planning skills to support goal setting and outcome achievement.
• Creativity, initiative, flexibility, sound judgment, and commitment to interdisciplinary teamwork and person-centered philosophy.
• Effective listening, patience, and a positive sense of humor.

Working Conditions

• Positions available: 2 permanent full-time (78 hours per fortnight), 1 permanent part-time (62 hours per fortnight), and 1 temporary full-time (78 hours per fortnight).
• 14-day duty roster including weekends, split shifts, public holidays, evening/night duties, and sleep-ins as needed.
• The service follows Personal Outcome Measures standards requiring flexible working hours.
• Annual leave entitlement of 22 days.

Salary and Benefits

• Department of Health Social Care Worker salary scale effective 01/06/2026 ranging from €41,260 to €56,717 annually (pro-rata for part-time), with a long service increment after three years (max €57,789 pro-rata).
• Additional payments for weekends, public holidays, and night duties.
• Salary based on 39-hour workweek with incremental credit for verified previous public sector service.
• Employment is pensionable.

Employment Terms

• Permanent full-time and part-time positions and temporary full-time appointment.
• Probation period of nine months with potential termination or extension at employer discretion.
