Site Operative / Material Controller

Role Overview

In the construction sector, you will be involved with procuring materials, handling large projects, upholding safety standards, and delivering excellent customer service. Barratt Redrow operates approximately 400 developments across urban and rural locations in the UK, with projects ranging from new builds on former industrial land to renovations of existing structures like factories and hospitals.

Reporting directly to the Site Manager, the Site Operative/Material Controller must execute assigned tasks efficiently, adhering to Barratt David Wilson (BDW) standards and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute assigned site duties following instructions from the Site Manager and BDW procedures.
• Regularly inspect all onsite signage, including sales and safety signs, ensuring cleanliness and good condition.
• Take personal responsibility for health and safety, reporting any violations immediately to the Site Manager.
• Ensure subcontractors protect fixed materials appropriately according to BDW guidelines.
• Maintain protective measures on installed materials until project completion, alerting the Site Manager of any misuse or removal.
• Oversee the upkeep of the site compound and welfare facilities.
• Maintain tidiness across all construction plots by all working trades.
• Conduct daily inspections to remove surplus materials from active construction plots.
• Manage waste segregation and recycling in line with company policies.
• Inspect show home gardens and public open spaces weekly, clearing any litter or debris.

Qualifications and Attributes

• A self-motivated individual capable of using initiative and working independently.
• Prior experience on large-scale domestic house building sites.
• Strong awareness of health and safety standards and practices.
• Possession of a valid CSCS card or an equivalent partner scheme certification.
