Site Operative

About the Role

Join us as a Site Operative at the Dulcote Household Waste Recycling Centre in Highbridge. This role involves ensuring smooth, safe, and environmentally compliant operations at the site. You will interact directly with the public, guiding them to dispose of their waste properly and maximize recycling efforts. This hands-on position is predominantly outdoors and features a variety of daily tasks.

Working hours average around 40 per week, from Wednesday to Sunday, with slight seasonal adjustments: summer shifts run Wednesday to Friday (08:45 - 18:15) and Saturday to Sunday (08:45 - 16:15), while winter shifts are Wednesday to Friday (08:45 - 17:15) and Saturday to Sunday (08:45 - 16:15). The pay rate is £12.92 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure safe and effective daily operations of the recycling centre.
• Advise and support public users in safely handling and sorting waste.
• Enhance recycling rates by correct segregation of materials.
• Manage site traffic to maintain safety of vehicles and pedestrians.
• Monitor incoming waste for compliance with licensing regulations.
• Handle and sort hazardous and special waste safely.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of the site.
• Keep accurate site records and complete necessary forms.
• Prevent unauthorized dumping, theft, and inappropriate site uses.
• Deliver excellent customer service and maintain a professional image representing the company.
• Adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and procedural standards.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues to uphold service quality.

• Interest or understanding of recycling and waste segregation processes.
• Basic literacy, numeracy, and record-keeping skills.

• Prepared to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Able to work weekends and bank holidays with weekday rest days.
• Committed to maintaining health and safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

• Prior experience in waste management or recycling sector.
• Basic health and safety knowledge.
• Experience in rudimentary maintenance or minor repairs at a site.
• Exposure to working in harsh outdoor environments.
• Possession of a full driving license.
