About the Role
We are seeking a Shift Leader to join One Stop, a Tesco subsidiary, working in a lively retail environment where every day brings new challenges. In this role, you will be accountable for leading store activities during your shifts, managing a team to maintain a clean, well-stocked store that surpasses customer expectations. You will focus on coaching colleagues on the job to elevate customer service and use your insight into store performance to implement effective improvements firsthand. Ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for both shoppers and staff is a key part of your duties.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the team to provide a seamless shopping experience for the community.
- Open and close the store as needed, handling duty cover and ensuring customer and colleague safety.
- Act as the primary point of contact for operational queries during the Store Manager's absence.
- Assist with organizing community, charity, and seasonal events to foster an inclusive atmosphere.
- Maintain the store's cleanliness, tidiness, and presentation to a high standard.
- Prioritize replenishment of key products important to customers.
- Ensure correct signage like point of sale and shelf labels reflect quality standards.
- Promptly resolve any overcharging issues and prevent recurrence.
- Manage queues effectively to ensure a positive shopping environment.
- Coordinate colleagues to complete daily priorities and schedule breaks according to trading patterns.
- Maintain comprehensive store knowledge and lead improvements with practical actions.
- Enforce health and safety policies, ensuring team adherence.
- Keep the team informed through effective communication.
- Suggest ways to simplify store operations and share ideas with the Store Manager.
- Prioritize customer needs in all activities and interactions.
- Handle customer queries promptly, ensuring satisfaction.
- Adjust service delivery tailored to each customer's needs.
- Acknowledge and celebrate colleagues who provide excellent service.
- Identify obstacles to great service and support their resolution.
- Address colleague issues during shifts, escalating to Store Manager as appropriate.
- Manage staffing levels, providing cover for absences and sickness.
- Hold a Keyholder position to respond to alarm call-outs and maintain store security.
- Monitor and ensure timely action on internal communications.
- Organize colleagues to meet customer and operational demands, reporting any concerns to the Store Manager.
- Balance responsibilities between frontline service and stock replenishment.
- Support absence management by conducting return-to-work interviews and reporting triggers according to absence policies.
- Develop strong working relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues appropriately and embracing coaching.
- If applicable, manage Post Office Local operations which require passing financial and criminal checks.
