About the Role
We are seeking an energetic Shift Leader to join One Stop, a Tesco subsidiary, operating in a dynamic retail setting where each day presents new challenges. This role involves overseeing store operations during shifts, leading the store team to maintain a pristine and well-stocked environment that surpasses customer expectations. Focusing intensely on service quality, the Shift Leader actively coaches and provides feedback to improve store performance. A practical hands-on approach is essential to understanding store metrics and implementing effective improvements. Safety is paramount, and maintaining a secure environment for both customers and staff is a key responsibility.
Key Duties
- Lead the team to ensure the simplest and most convenient shopping experience for community customers.
- Manage store opening and closing, oversee duty shifts, and make customer, colleague, and safety-centered decisions.
- Serve as the primary contact for operational matters in the Store Manager's absence.
- Assist in organizing seasonal, community, and charity initiatives to foster an inclusive store atmosphere.
- Maintain store cleanliness, presentation, and proper product replenishment focusing on customer needs.
- Ensure point-of-sale and shelf labeling meet standards and promptly address any pricing errors.
- Manage customer queues proactively to enhance shopping experience.
- Coordinate staff breaks and duty assignments in line with trading patterns.
- Monitor and implement store improvement actions, communicating effectively with team members.
- Enforce company health and safety policies among all colleagues.
- Communicate store information clearly and timely within the team.
- Suggest operational simplifications and share improvements with the Store Manager.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries, ensuring satisfaction and personalized service.
- Recognize and celebrate exceptional colleague service and help overcome service obstacles.
- Resolve colleague concerns during the Store Manager's absence or escalate them as needed.
- Manage staffing levels by covering short-term absences effectively.
- Act as a Keyholder, responding to alarms, guaranteeing store security and safety.
- Manage internal communications and ensure timely execution of messages.
- Balance attention between customer service and product replenishment tasks.
- Support absence management practices, including return to work interviews and reporting, according to company policy.
- Build strong relationships with Area Manager and People Partner to facilitate timely issue resolution and coaching.
- If applicable, manage Post Office Local operations, including passing financial and criminal background checks required for this function.
