Role Overview

The Setting Out Engineer position is a full-time, on-site role based in County Cork, Ireland. The role involves providing accurate setting out and surveying assistance throughout the construction process. Key daily activities include establishing and auditing control points, setting out structural components and site boundaries, and validating levels, coordinates, and dimensions according to drawings and specifications. The engineer works closely with site management, design teams, and subcontractors, identifying discrepancies and assisting in resolving issues to maintain project accuracy and progress.

Additional duties include recording precise site measurements, maintaining comprehensive survey documentation, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations and quality standards, assisting with method statements, supporting as-built surveys, and helping enhance surveying and setting out methods continuously.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven hands-on experience in site setting out, proficient in operating total stations, GPS devices, and laser levels.
  • Strong understanding of construction plans, technical specifications, and coordinate systems.
  • Competency in surveying or engineering software such as AutoCAD or Revit, alongside fundamental data handling skills.
  • A relevant qualification in civil engineering, construction, geomatics, or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with construction site health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and cooperative skills to work effectively with both on-site and office teams.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving capabilities with high attention to precision.
  • Prior experience in a comparable role on civil or building projects; familiarity with the Irish construction market, especially Dublin, is advantageous.
  • Capability to commit full-time on-site presence, efficiently manage varying priorities, and adapt to evolving project demands.
  • Possession of a valid driving license and eligibility to work within Ireland.
