Role Overview

The Production Software Engineering team at Sydney is responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure, systems, tooling, and workflows that empower engineers to deploy, operate, and monitor the extensive and specialized trading systems. This team collaborates with various stakeholders, including operations and development teams, focusing on scaling change processes, enhancing system robustness, and minimizing operational friction, thereby accelerating and safeguarding Optiver’s innovation cycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop end-to-end technical solutions incorporating both third-party and proprietary technologies.
• Engage fully in the process from identifying business needs through to design, implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring of changes.
• Collaborate closely with the team to support delivery efforts, including requirements gathering, architectural design, and implementation tasks.

Candidate Profile

• Systems-oriented engineer with a strong grasp of the intersection between software, infrastructure, and operations.
• Committed to enabling rapid and secure changes, emphasizing clear standards, scalable workflows, and trustworthy automation in production settings.
• Extensive background in software engineering, especially with designing and implementing scalable systems.
• In-depth understanding of software systems, operating environments, and the behavior of distributed applications in production.
• A proactive approach to continuous improvement with the ability to simplify complex systems and minimize operational obstacles.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Mandatory)

• Experience in Python programming.
• Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, configuration management tools, and modern web frameworks.
• Exposure to high-performance, low-latency trading or similar environments.
